Acceptance Perth named a finalist in the AlikeWA Peer Support Awards

In October 2025, Acceptance Perth LGBT Catholics was named a finalist in the Inclusive Practice Award at the Alike WA Peer Support Awards Gala, held at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth.
Alike WA is the peak body for peer support groups across Western Australia. The Inclusive Practice Award recognises peer support groups that go out of their way to make their communities welcoming for all. We were one of three finalists selected from groups across the state, alongside South West Migrant Women’s Group – who took home the award – and The PDC Collective. The award was presented by Felicity Horrocks, Director of Relational Contracting and Agreements at the Department of Communities WA.
For a small, fully volunteer-led community, being recognised in this way means a great deal.
“This recognition means so much to our community,” said Angela Han, Chair of Acceptance Perth. “Inclusive practice matters deeply to us because too many LGBTIQA+ people have been hurt by faith communities that should have loved them as they are. We believe that everyone deserves a spiritual home where they can be fully themselves, without having to hide or compromise who they are.”
We have come a long way since launching as a Facebook page in November 2019. Today we offer regular Mass and Morning Tea, Rainbow Reflections – our monthly faith sharing night – and social gatherings throughout the year. We have also been active beyond our own community, founding the Rainbow Interfaith Alliance to bring together LGBTIQA+ people of faith across traditions in Perth.
“This award belongs to our members and all the supporters who have stood by us over the years,” Angela Han said. “Their courage and commitment to building a more welcoming faith community is what makes this work possible.”
